Neuroscience and well-being

September 3, 2016

Debenham High School welcomed Dr Hazel Harrison, Clinical Psychologist on their training day. Hazel is one of the leads for mental health in young people for the NHS in the East of Suffolk. In her talk she considers a 5-a-day menu that support the development of positive mental health. Her PERMA model, informed by scientific research and clinical practice, looks at:

  1. Positive emotion (recognising the good)

  2. Engagement (the be here now principle)

  3. Relationships (empathy and inclusion)

  4. Meaning (belonging to something, finding a purpose)

  5. Accomplishments (a sense of mastery - you can fail and be OK)

If you are interested in Hazel's work then see her webpage with advice and guidance.
